The priest behind him ordering the soldiers to wait for carrera to finish speaking is josé benito lamas; on the right, devastated, is colonel josé maría benavente - whose death sentence will be commuted thanks to the efforts of his influential brother, mariano - and on the left, assisted by another franciscan, colonel felipe álvarez.
