Both wings were restored in the workshop of the a. S. Pushkin state museum of fine arts in 1964, restorer g. M. Nrhova. Loss of wood, gesso and paint layer, especially on the ark. Copybooks, restoration toning 1964. Counts. Stylistic information: the accepted attribution of this icon is: 15th century, greece. The painting of the faces is traditional: smooth and multi-layered with deep green sanquer, light ochre spots, highlights and cinnabar accents. The beautiful technique of personal painting is combined with rigid geometric outlines, often not corresponding to the head of the archangel. Various techniques are used in the painting of the vestments: dense painting of the mother of god's maphorion, liquid painting of the tunics and cloak of the archangel, small highlights and large gaps along the shape of the legs, a fine pattern of folds. The mother of god's maphorion is decorated with golden stars and fringe. Obviously a copy of a sample from the second half of the 14th century, but with noticeable distortions and italian influences in style. The composition is cramped, the figures overlap the field of the ark, the drawing is simplified, especially the shoulders and neck of gabriel; his left foot is depicted with three toes. The throne of the mother of god is conveyed only by the image of the pillows and the footstool directly on the dark green soil. The coloring is soft and gloomy. The icon probably comes from the macedonian center of the 16th century. The macedonian tradition includes the dark coloring and carnation, the turn of the head of the mother of god and the outline of the maphorion around the face, the faces narrowed to the chin, the spindle with a red thread, the placement of the shoes of the virgin mary with the toes facing outwards. See the right wing of the royal gates of the last quarter of the 15th century from kastoria. Date: Early 16th century, Macedonia.
