iconographic description:
lacressonnière in the role of quasimodo for the performance of "notre-dame de paris" at the théâtre des nations, june 7, 1879. He stands, hands on hips, dressed in a doublet and hose. He is one of the central characters of the novel: abandoned and exchanged for little agnès (esmeralda) by his bohemian parents at the age of 4 because of his physical deformations (hunchback, one-eyed and lame), he is taken in by the archdeacon claude frollo and becomes the ringer of the bells of notre-dame (which makes him deaf). He also falls in love with the beautiful gypsy who prefers the officer phoebus. After being delivered to justice by a jealous frollo and furious at having been rejected, esmeralda is hanged at place de grève. Quasimodo, who sees the scene from the top of the cathedral towers, throws claude frollo into the void. Themes / subjects / places represented:
