Portrait of a Dwarf, Juan van der Hamen, circa 1626
In the inventory of the marquis leganés it is named as a portrait of the “dwarf of the count of olivares”, a name that was possibly due to the resemblance to the king's valet. The painting was part of a series of eight portraits of well-known court jesters (at least two of them painted by velázquez, according to the inventory) that were located in the country house that the marquis had in leganés. It is a portrait of extraordinary workmanship in which the delicate detail with which the suit is treated and especially the expressive strength of the sitter stands out. Object Type: painting. Genre: portrait. Date: circa 1626. Dimensions: height: 122.5 cm (48.2 in); width: 87 cm (34.2 in). Medium: oil on canvas. Collection: Museo del Prado. Juan van der Hamen enano
