Petersburg. “the beginning of work on the series of moscow views dates back to 1800, when f. Ya. Alekseyev was sent to moscow in the second half of september at the expense of his imperial majesty’s cabinet. This and two other paintings (“square in the moscow kremlin” and “view of the moscow kremlin from the kamenny bridge”) were apparently painted by the artist in st. Petersburg based on sketches made in moscow. The state historical museum contains a similar, larger work with a slightly modified foreground composition (“cathedral square in moscow with the faceted chamber. ” 80 × 106). ” —state russian museum annotation.
