cernuschi museum, 16th arrondissement. Museum room with the large statue of amithaba buddha (buddha amida nyoraï), various japanese bronzes. Historical commentary:
the amida buddha comes from a small temple in the meguro district of tokyo, banryûji. The statue no longer having any function after the fire of the temple, it was sold to henri cernuschi. Cut into pieces by théodore duret for the trip, it was reassembled by the barbedienne workshop in paris, to be presented at the palais de l'industrie, before its installation in the palace on avenue velasquez.
