Drevnosti RG v3 ill088 - Sabre, before 1853

Sabre attributed to grand duke vladimir monomakh this sabre, kept in the armoury chamber under no. 2, is damask; on one side of the strip is a gold image of the mother of god with the eternal child; in her right hand is the unfading flower, above which is depicted the holy spirit in the form of a dove. Around the face are cherubs and above the mother of god are archangels armed with swords, holding a crown. Between them in a nest is a small jacinth; above them is the face of the sun, covering a lunar circle, and stars are scattered; below, as in front of the image, are two candles, between which is also a jacinth in a gold nest. Along the strip, near the back, is cut in gold: i. E. "most holy mother of god, help your servant, in the year after christ. " these words are limited by two sapphires in sockets, and the time in which exactly "the summer after christ" is not indicated. On the other side of the strip is engraved in gold in the hallmark of st. George on horseback, slaying the dragon. The handle of this sabre, the flint, the mouth on the legs, the tip and two clips with rings, are gold, decorated with 522 diamonds and 165 sapphires. At the top of the handle is a large red sapphire. The face of the mother of god with its accessories, depicted on the sabre by archangels, heavenly bodies and candles, corresponds in greek iconography to the image of јьдпн фпв рмьсбнфпн — "unfading color". The same image and the same accessories on the sabre presented by mr. Bogdanovich to emperor paul i in 1801, and on the sabre that arrived in the armoury from the st. Petersburg rustkamera in 1810. On the first of them there is also an image of the mother of god, but with an inscription along the strip: i. E. "you are the invincible tsar, the word of god, the almighty. " on the other - the images and inscription are the same as on the described sabre, with the difference that instead of candles at the foot of the face, the year is written in gold, as follows: 16 b 92 from which we can conclude that these three sabres, completely similar in forging and images, were made during the era of the morean uprising, under the influence of the so-called sacred alliance against the turks and the conquest of the morea from the turks by the venetians under the leadership of francesco morosini of the peloponnese. The same period should also be attributed to the sabres kept in the armoury chamber under no. 61, 62, of similar forging to those mentioned, but with latin inscriptions: ivdica. Domine. Nocentes. Me. Expvgna. Impvgantes. Me, i. E. "judge, o lord, those who offend me, fight those who fight me. " on the first one - the mother of god in the middle of a double-headed eagle, on the second one - a cross is depicted with the inscription: i `с. Х `с. Нiка. Date: before 1853.
