Subsequent actionsmonitor remained in the hampton roads area and, in mid-1862 was actively employed along the james river in support of the army's peninsular campaign in april and may. During the summer, the temperature reached up to 150 degrees in the interior of the ship. In late december 1862, following repairs in november, she was ordered south for further operations.
