Assumption of the Virgin, El Greco, 1577

Assumption of the virgin (1577) was el greco’s first commission in spain. The composition of the painting, which measures height: 4 m (13. 1 ft); width: 2. 2 m (89. 7 in), is divided into two halves. The upper section depicts the virgin mary rising to heaven while in the lower section people stare in awe and amazement.
