Born 16 august 1596 at dunfermline palace, fife, as princess elizabeth of scotland; married 14 february 1613 to frederick v, elector palatine, at the royal chapel at the palace of whitehall; died 13 february 1662 at leicester house, westminster; for her husband's short reign as king of bohemia (1619-20) she is often nicknamed the winter queen.
