Tōkaidō gojūsan tsui, Kanagawa, Kanagawa no eki Urashima zuka, 1845 (late Edo)

This elegant woman uses a fishing line to catch prawns as she drifts near the shore at kanagawa. Her bunched-up sleeves and the scarf she holds in her teeth lend her an air of casualness. This adds a touch of realism to what is otherwise a luxurious fantasy. Object Type: woodcut print. Genre: ukiyo-e. Date: 1845 (late Edo). Place of creation: Japan. Dimensions: height: 36.8 cm (14.4 in); width: 24.4 cm (9.6 in). Medium: pigments on mulberry paper. Collection: Walters Art Museum. Series Title: Fifty-three pairings along the Tokaido Road.
