three men with animal heads stand in an office. To the left of the stage, a judge with the head of a vulture solemnly raises his arms. At his side, seated in an armchair, a clerk with a turtle's head speaks to the man with the head of a donkey who is behind his desk. The donkey, dressed like a peasant in his sunday best (walking stick and straw hat), opens his arms in a sign of incomprehension and helplessness. Excerpt from métamorphoses du jour (editions gustave havard libraire, paris, 1854): "from the chicaneau and the countess of pimbêche of les plaideurs [to the] novels of balzac, who understood legal and civil matters so well, commercial and other (he proved it), have we made enough fun of these brave and tireless clients of thémis, who assure that if there is a civil code, a commercial code, judges, courts, solicitors, approved, lawyers, bailiffs, it is apparently so that we can use them?
