Description visible on the museum's website: "portrait of madeleine armande, wife of maximilien pierre françois nicolas de béthune, bust-length, head turned to left but glancing towards the viewer, with curled hair, pearl necklace, low-necked gown; in oval"
the british museum identifies the sitter as madeleine-armande de camboust, duchesse de sully (1665-1721), but it's probably a portrait of marguerite-louise de bethune sully, duchesse de lude (1643-1726) because it bears a great similarity to a portrait of this lady by nicolas ii de larmessin (see image below). Date: circa 1820-1856. Dimensions: height: 23.2 cm (9.1 in); width: 16.5 cm (6.4 in). Medium: etching print and engraving. Collection: British Museum. Wedgwood after Devéria - Madame de Sully
