Dearest parents! today you have made me very happy again! first came the package and then the letter with my picture. I can't tell you how happy i was. How did you come up with this wonderful idea? i am always sorry that i have no pictures of the campaign. I was often photographed and i would have gotten the pictures too. But unfortunately the comrades who had the camera were killed, wounded or became ill and i never saw them again. I knew [what joy i would have given you at home. ]. Date: 19 February 1942.
