Bow view of a fighting vessel, probably an 'Orion'-class battleship, after 1910 RMG PU9912, William Lionel Wyllie

Bow view of a fighting vessel, probably an 'orion'-class battleship, after 1910 a watercolour study of a royal naval capital ship seen from dead ahead, at moorings, with one of her own boats lowered to starboard (left in the drawing) and a tender of some sort to port. The ship appears to have her fore funnel forward of the tripod mast and can only be 'colossus', 'hercules', or one of the four 'orion'-class battleships from 1910 on. The overall appearance strongly suggests she is one the latter. She is shown wearing an admiral's flag but none of these six vessels carried a full admiral. Date: after 1910. Dimensions: 355 mm x 254 mm. Collection: Fine art.
