The scene is inspired by a painting by ducis entitled: "van dyck painting his first painting" which belongs to a series of four paintings: "the arts under the empire of love". The flemish artist van dyck symbolizes painting. The painter is busy painting "saint martin sharing his cloak with a poor man", his beloved pressing his shoulder with one hand while she points to the painting in progress with the other. Historical commentary: this magnificent vase, with handles in the shape of rams' heads, is signed at the bottom of the cartel "lachassaigne", named after a painter-decorator, renowned for the quality and excellence of his compositions on porcelain. / lachassaigne reproduces a composition by the painter ducis, who specialized in genre scenes with historical content. At the salon of 1822, ducis exhibited four paintings representing “the arts under the empire of love”. Van dyck symbolized painting, and propertia de rossi sculpture.
