Field post letters from hans koch, vienna, world war ii, eastern front, 1922-1945 previous letter (1943-03-18) letter no. 148 (1943-03-22) next letter (1943-03-22) [when i write to you i'm not making any effort; i've got plenty of time now, and when] i'm back at the front i can always write at the fire station. You should always know exactly how i'm doing and my life here so that you don't worry unnecessarily! the package ban isn't because of the retreat which is now over, but because wagons are freed up for new troops and ammunition! it's a shame you can't send the ink. I have to laugh when you ask what it's like when someone has to go "somewhere". Yes, everything has been thought of; there's even a solid bunker built with a "latrine" in it. I didn't have much fire watch and as i told you, it's much better than being a listening post in the cold! Date: 22 March 1943.
