Cabalus modestus, 1907

The chatham rail (cabalus modestus, also gallirallus modestus) is an extinct species of bird in the rallidae family. It was endemic to new zealand. It became extinct around the year 1900 due to introduced predators. The other bird is the new zealand quail, or koreke (the māori name), coturnix novaezelandiae. It has been extinct since 1875. Date: 1907.
