iconographic description:
a man of strange proportions, disguised as a shepherdess (blue and white dress and hat, decorated with numerous blue bows), and wearing a mask with a human figure whose mouth and lower face are replaced by a pink veil, moves towards the left of the composition. It is mayeux, mocked by a group of five children. One threatens him with a bat (no doubt armed with a chalk pad in the shape of a rat), the other seems to insult him, another, older, points at him while laughing (the one holding a smaller child in his arms), and a last one raises his clenched fists. These children chase mayeux out of the town, where a tower can be seen in the background. The pl. Makes fun of mayeux who, despite his disguise, remains recognizable and is surprised, as if he did not realize his atypical physique. Person / character represented:
mayeux (literary character)
