historical commentary:
this print which served as a prospectus was published in the prologue to scenes from the private and public lives of animals. The original drawing in reverse, modified however in the final wood (inscriptions in the drawing, presence of the amphibian in front of the duck, etc. ), is preserved in the thiéry-solet collection of the nancy municipal library (des 76). It seems that the drawings in the first volume date from 1841 and those in the second volume from 1842 (see exhibition catalog "grandville original drawings", 1986-1987).
