The Last Supper, Lucas Cranach the Younger, 1565

The Last Supper, Lucas Cranach the Younger, 1565

Donated as an epitaph for prince joachim of dessau (born 1509) by his nephews, princes joachim ernst and bernhard. Instead of the apostles, protestant theologians, including luther and melanchthon, are depicted here. The little mouthpiece is possibly a self-portrait of cranach the younger. The signet ring that this person wears shows the winged snake. Object Type: painting. Date: 1565. Collection: Johanniskirche Dessau. Lucas Cranach d.J. - Das Abendmahl, Ausschnitt mit Mundschenk (Johanniskirche Dessau)
