Of the scene represented here grindlay writes: "the progress of their caravans when in motion, and their motley appearance when bivouacked for the night's halt are strikingly picturesque. The varied figures of the mercantile travellers and their wild military escort, offer some of the richest subjects for the pencil that can be imagined. ". Date: 1830.
