Studies of the foretop of HMS 'Repulse' RMG PV2745, William Lionel Wyllie, 1916

Studies of the foretop of hms 'repulse' two foretop studies of this battlecruiser, on a single sheet, inscribed lower right by the artist, 'repulse'. The lower drawing is an enlargement of the top part of the one above. Both are quite accurate and show the foretop in the period 1916 to early 1917, before the ship underwent any rig changes. Even the funnel detailing is accurate: the steampipes on the second funnel of the 'repulse' were full height, as shown, whereas those on her sister 'renown' were much shorter. 'repulse' was built by john brown at clydebank, was launched 8 january 1916 and completed 14 august that year. See also pae2744. Date: 1916. Dimensions: 251 mm x 176 mm. Collection: Fine art.
