Rodogune Pajou, 1810

Painting. Last scene of the tragedy "rodogune" at the théâtre-français. Antiochus (talma) is about to drink the poisoned cup given to him by his mother cleopatra (mlle raucourt). His fiancée rodogune (mlle duchesnois), prevents him from putting his lips to it by pointing at the poisoner. The other characters present are, on the left, oronte (barbier), ambassador of the king of parthia; behind demetrius, timagène (desprez), his governor; supporting cleopatra, laonice (mlle thénard the younger), his confidante. Date: 1810.
