Anonymous engraving reproducing a painting by eugénie servières entitled "valentine de milan" presented at the paris salon of 1822 (no. 1191 in the booklet), then belonging to the duchess of berry. The engraving was published in "la guirlande des dames", a french almanac by albéric deville (9th grade, 1823), accompanied by the following description:
"after the assassination of the duke of orléans, his inconsolable widow had the armor, the scarf and the sword of this prince transported to her oratory, and locked herself away, resolved to die, watering the sad remains of her husband with her tears. She had resisted for three days all the efforts that had been made to tear her from this place of pain, when it was thought of introducing the eldest of her children, the count of angoulême succeeded; the presence of the young prince reminded the unfortunate valentine that she had not lost everything, and overcome by the entreaties of this amiable child, she allowed herself to be led away by casting a last glance at the only objects remaining to her from the husband she loved so much.
