Title: 'izanagi and izanami giving birth to japan'. Izanagi churns the naginata ame-no-nuboko (heavenly jeweled spear) in the water to raise the primordial land from the sea. After an artwork by kawanabe kyosai (1831-1889). Made in circa 1870 by unknown artist and captured on film for the connoisseur magazine in 1925. Date: circa 1870.
