Windmill on the Bastion Blauwhoofd in Amsterdam, Rembrandt

In the 17th century amsterdam still had city walls with triangular fortifications. On each of these stood a windmill and a few houses. The fortification stood roughly where nowadays the train enters the city on the northwest. In the background the river ij is visible. Date: Between circa 1640 and circa 1650.
