stereoscopic daguerreotype made in the 1850s in paris by a photographer of american origin, also known for his self-portraits but whose work is little known and the works rare. Considered one of the pioneers of photography, he played an important role in the 1840s and 1850s in paris. His studio was located on boulevard poissonnière in 1849 and 1850, then basse-du-rempart in 1851, and finally on rue de choiseul between 1853 and 1859. Here two women pose, one seated and the other standing (the girl and the mother?), side by side in 19th century costume, in front of a pedestal table on which is placed a book.
