My time! i'm coming iconographic description: a man and a woman stand facing each other. The lady is wrapped in a fur-lined cape, a ribboned bonnet on her head and blowing on my gloved hands. The man's face is hidden by a raised collar, his top hat is covered in snow. Actor, playwright and designer, henry monnier helped illustrate la comédie humaine. His engravings of administrative morals, and especially his play scenes from bureaucratic life, clearly inspired balzac for his novel la femme supérieure, renamed les employés. The same references to the customs of their time often inspired the two artists in parallel on numerous subjects as we can see in the following extract: "madame granson shivered. Monsieur the chevalier de valois, although he had dined like four, pale down to the sinister section of his face, felt that he was going to reveal his secret and said: -- don't you think that it is cold today, i am frozen? -- it is the neighborhood of russia, said the bousquier. The knight looked at him with a look that meant: -- well done.
