Mary as a child, praying in the company of saint joachim and saint anne who offers her a plate of fruit. On the table on which joaquín is leaning, one of zurbarán's favorite still life sets can be recognized for its symbolic power of purity and love, the tray with the rose and a white earthenware cup from triana (a pottery neighborhood in seville), a set that is repeated in several of zurbarán's paintings. That of the miraculous healing of blessed reginald of orleans (in the magdalena parish of seville, 1626); in the still life with basket of oranges from the norton simon foundation in pasadena, 1633; and in cup of water and rose from the national gallery in london.
