At the time of the revolution we could still see at the old portal of the hôtel-dieu several very old and fairly well sculpted statues although in stone namely: "st john the evangelist, st roche, st louis and françois i - in 1770 a considerable fire had consumed part of the rooms of the hôtel-dieu as well as part of this portal but the statues remained in place and did not disappear until the revolution - notes by alexandre lenoir"
