Presented at the last impressionist exhibition in 1886, this painting was probably painted by the artist a few years earlier, shortly after the couple settled in sèvres. Directly inspired by walks taken in the nearby bois de saint-cloud, the subject depicts two elegant women in the middle of nature, on the banks of a river, indulging in the pleasure of a game of backgammon, a fairly popular board game at the time. Not far from the rug they have spread out on the grass, marie bracquemond has set out a small snack consisting of a sugar bowl, a lemon and a glass pitcher of water. Object Type: painting. Date: before 1886. Dimensions: height: 56 cm (22 in) ; width: 78 cm (30.7 in). Medium: oil on canvas. Collection: Private collection.
