The print shows the complex of pleasure gardens of enghien near brussels. The plan is part of a series of prints commissioned by nicolaes visscher ii (1649-1702) and engraved by romeyn de hooghe (1645-1708). The print shows the so-called bloemhof with an extensive variety of flowers and plants. During the second half of the 17th century such flowerbeds were very popular. Except for the enormous variety of colours and fragrances, the popularity was mainly caused by the collectors mania of gardeners and their employers. As a consequence of this internationally famous horticulture exotic plants from all over the world were collected for gardens. Object Type: print. Date: circa 1685. Place of creation: Netherlands. Dimensions: 23 x 28 cm. Medium: copper engraving print. Collection: Koninklijke Bibliotheek.
