The painting carried a latter day label on the verso, with the text ferdinand richardt, frederiksborg slot, 1852. At the 2004 auction, the experts at bruun rasmussen only attributed the work to dansk maler (danish painter) but in 2005 they believed it was a work by richardt, perhaps influenced by the fact that the following lot (743/1075) showed exactly the same motif in moonlight settings - and signed by the artist.
