The work, which is a preparatory sketch of the homonymous canvas preserved in the prado museum and deposited in the museum of fine arts of valencia, represents the moment in which the arrest of fernando de valenzuela (1636-1692), first marquis of villasierra and confidant of queen mariana of austria, who in 1677 was arrested by order of juan josé of austria in the escorial monastery and sentenced to 10 years of exile in the philippine islands, although he died in mexico, in 1692.
