Illustration by poul steffensen from the danish novel gjøngehøvdingen by carit etlar which takes place during the dano-swedish war in 1657-1658. The captured svend poulsen, gøngehøvdingen, surrounded by two swedish soldiers, major general william vavasor and colonel sparre. The major general is angry because his son went missing two days ago, probably killed by the gønger. Svend poulsen (app. 1610 - app. 1679) and william vavasor (died 1659) were real persons but the story is fiction. The look of svend poulsen is also fantasy as there are no known portraits of him. Date: Original illustration from the 1890s, here reprint from 1909..
